UWILD Alternative

EM&I have recently implemented a unique approach to UWILD methodology on two ABS classed FPSOs in Brazil. EM&I’s UWILD Alternative (Underwater Inspection in Lieu of Drydocking) is a component of the EM&I “No Drydock…Safely” concept providing a safer, cost effective, reduced POB method which meets the requirements of UWILD without the use of divers or work class ROVs.

The methodology was developed over a period of 5 years and included the creation of a full size testing and training facility. Cost savings indicated to date are in excess of USD I million with a POB requirement of only 3 persons.

Danny Constantinis CEO EM&I Group commented “EM&I’s UWILD Alternative is part of our ‘No Drydock…Safely’ range of services whose purpose is to help Operators keep their assets on station and in production for extended periods on site. We recognise the costs to Operators of shutting down production and the POB and safety implications of using divers so we are pleased to offer this unique, innovative and Class accepted service to our clients”

He added ”The UWILD Alternative can be applied to floating production, drill ships and rigs which are often based in deep water and can be required to stay on station for extended periods.”

EM&I’s approach uses specialised inspection methods form inside the hull with deck launched mini ROVs and specialised equipment for inspection of isolation valves and sea chests.

The main benefits of the UWILD Alternative method includes reduced safety risk, reduced POB, reduced costs and high value integrity data.
