WrapSight® – Temporary Piping Repair Inspection and Management

The challenge of temporary repair of piping systems

Corrosion and other anomalies on piping are often temporarily repaired with various types of composite wraps

The difficulty in inspecting ‘wrapped’ repairs, can lead to several consequential issues:

  • Requirement for permanent repair: Due to the inability to properly assess the condition of the temporary repair, there is often a mandated requirement to perform a permanent repair by a specific due date, regardless of whether the temporary fix is still effective or not.
  • Plant shutdowns: The need for permanent repairs usually necessitates shutting down the plant or facility. The shutdown and repair process causes significant disruption to normal operations.
  • Increased Personnel on Board (POB): Plant shutdowns typically require additional personnel to carry out the repair work.
  • Higher costs: Both the shutdown and increased number of personnel lead to higher operational costs.

These challenges arise because traditional inspection methods cannot effectively assess the integrity of the temporary repair while the system is in service.

This limitation often leads to unnecessary repairs or replacements, which could be avoided if the condition of the temporary repair could be accurately evaluated without interrupting operations. This is why EM&I Alliance has developed the WrapSight® service.

The solution: WrapSight® service

EM&I and Inversa have developed WrapSight®, a class-approved inspection technique for assessing temporary repairs without operational interruption.  A unique inspection technique and class approved which enables the integrity of the temporary repair to be assessed while-in-service.
