Isope Conference

Danny Constantinis, EM&I Group CEO presented a paper on the topic of HITS (Hull Inspection Techniques & Strategies) at the 23rd International Offshore (Ocean) and Polar Engineering Conference in Anchorage, Alaska which runs from June 30 to July 5. The co-author of the paper was Raymond Caldwell.

HITS is an EM&I led international joint industry project (JIP), which was launched in 2011, to improve the way the industry manages the structural inspection of floating offshore installations. HITS is supported by representatives of Oil Majors and Operators, Classification Societies, Regulators, Service Companies and Research and Educational organisations.

Commenting on HITS to date Danny Constantinis said “The rapid growth in the numbers, complexity and life on site of floating production assets has created unique challenges for ensuring asset integrity. Effective inspection is a crucial part of maintaining integrity and I am pleased that all involved are already seeing the benefits of this JIP. Setting up this international initiative has enabled a debate on the issues and proposed solutions to improve the way the industry manages the inspection of these marine structures.”

Upon completion, the HITS project aims to provide the offshore oil & gas industry with comprehensive guidelines on the application of a number of novel inspection techniques and inspection personnel competency levels, thereby providing Operators, Class and Regulatory bodies with effective inspection schemes.
