ODIN® Access Ports to be Installed on New FPSOs
April 6th, 2023
EM&I has recently won two contracts to supply ODIN Access Ports to two major energy clients, both currently in projects to build new FPSOs. With over 400 ports fitted retrospectively on operating assets globally, these are the first ports to be fitted before the assets are operating.
EM&I was awarded a contract for the supply of ports to an FPSO in conversion in a yard in China, and bound for Brazil. This was the first purchase of EM&I’s newly available 4” Flanged ODIN Access Ports along with specially coated ODIN Completion Plugs.
Secondly, a global energy major placed an order for 4” ODIN Access Ports for a new build FPSO bound for Australian waters. EM&I was required by the client to fabricate the ports and associated 4” 150lb ANSI flanges from Nickel Aluminium Bronze (Ni-Al-Br). This material was specifically requested by the client as it has more anti-corrosion properties over the standard carbon steel. The ports were equipped with G10 Isolation Kits to prevent galvanic corrosion when installed on lines composed of different metals.
“I am delighted that we have made the breakthrough into new build projects for ODIN Access Ports, after global success on operating assets. As part of the Class-approved ODIN diverless in-water inspection and complex repair capability, clients see the benefits of safety mitigation, data enhancement, particularly to meet Class requirements, reduced impact on operations, and reduced cost. The development to conversion of these opportunities was a long-term, full team effort – EM&I, Client and Class – and adjusting to client requirements, across several jurisdictions, a specific achievement.”
