Traditional shallow depth (first 50 metres) ROV operations often depend on pilots and inspectors operating from the client asset.
This approach has a high POB burden, typically 3 to 4 personnel, often for extended durations, adding significant cost to inspection and maintenance campaigns and using bed spaces needed for other critical activities.
The offshore industry needs a reliable way to operate ROVs remotely, safely and effectively, with minimal personnel offshore.
The Solution: STARFISH™
EM&I’s STARFISH™ system enables low-latency, high-bandwidth, and high-security control of ROVs from onshore facilities.
Using advanced communication protocols and network optimisation, STARFISH allows pilots to operate ROVs from anywhere in the world, enabling secure live video streaming access to clients, classification society attending surveyors, and other stakeholders. The system also enables two way simplex communications between offshore and onshore locations facility near real time collaboration of remote team members.
This breakthrough reduces the POB burden to just two personnel – EM&I is working on initiatives to reduce this to zero.
EM&I has a dedicated Remote Operations Centre facility in its onshore base in Macaé, Brazil, enabling control of up to 10 ROVs simultaneously.
STARFISH integrates seamlessly with EM&I’s diverless services, using its V8 M500 and KING CRAB ROV systems, creating a fully remote in-water inspection and maintenance ecosystem.
