EM&I Featured in Subsea Energy Magazine with Article on Sea Valve Integrity in Offshore Assets

June 27th, 2025

We’re proud to share that EM&I was featured in the latest edition of Subsea Energy Magazine with the technical article “Sea Valves: Do They Matter?” – a clear and insightful piece exploring the critical role of sea valves and how innovative diverless technologies are transforming the way these components are inspected and maintained across offshore assets.

The article highlights how sea valves – often referred to as “intentional holes in the hull” – are essential to offshore operations, supporting vital systems such as cooling, ballast, firefighting, and production.

“Sea valves are present on nearly every marine vessel or offshore unit, from small yachts to massive floating production, storage, drilling and offshore wind units.”

Traditionally, inspecting and repairing sea valves — especially those below the waterline — posed technical and safety challenges. Today, with diverless technologies developed by EM&I, these processes are safer, faster, and more reliable.

The article showcases how EM&I’s ODIN®, PLUG™, and LIMPET systems are redefining sea valve integrity management:

“ODIN ports can be installed during vessel construction or retrofitted during operation, without interrupting production.”

“Multiple successful deployments have shown that the ODIN, PLUG and LIMPET system offers a safer, faster, and simpler method of ensuring sea valve integrity.”

These systems enable close-up visual inspections without divers, provide safe blanking for repairs, and ultimately help ensure asset integrity while supporting continuous offshore operations.

This publication reinforces EM&I’s commitment to technical excellence and leadership in offshore innovation.
