Collaborative Actions Between EM&I & DNV on AI & Asset Integrity
October 15th, 2024

In September, EM&I hosted a workshop with the DNV team to discuss their respective approaches to innovation. The teams will collaborate on several strategic initiatives to advance floating offshore wind (FoW) projects, inspection technologies, and AI-based solutions.
Evaluating the Insurance Market for FoW
EM&I initiated a meeting to address insurance challenges crucial for financing floating offshore wind (FoW) projects which will also include NIORD. Previous engagements with NIORD have emphasized the importance of insurance solutions for FoW development. This meeting aims to align on strategy and explore the potential for joint collaboration between DNV, EM&I, and NIORD.
SUSI Simulator Demonstration for EM&I
DNV agreed to showcase its Surveyor Simulator (SUSI) remotely to EM&I. This presentation aims to enhance EM&I’s understanding of SUSI’s capabilities in survey simulations.
Expanding the Scope of REDHUS Project
Discussions are underway to broaden the REDHUS project’s activities from autonomous Close Visual Inspection (CVI) to also include General Visual Inspection (GVI) and Deflection Measurement. However, DNV’s preliminary evaluation suggests limited feasibility, given the existing constraints including agreement among current partners to include new partners, lack of sponsorship for foreign partners, and the extended scope required for deflection studies.
Reviewing NoMan Deflection Studies with AI Potential
DNV has committed to reviewing EM&I’s NoMan Tank Deflection Test Plan to explore its applicability to artificial intelligence. Andrew Collard will oversee the coordination and will determine if AI can enhance the accuracy and efficiency of deflection measurements.
These collaborative actions highlight DNV and EM&I’s efforts to push the boundaries in offshore technologies AI-enabled inspections. These strategic alignments are essential for achieving sustainable growth in floating offshore wind and inspection innovation.
