milestone meeting

Senior representatives of the world’s leading FPSO owners, operators, Classification Societies, service providers and academic institutions gathered in Houston on 14th October 2013. This was for a key milestone meeting which ratified phase one of the HITS project and confirmed focus of phase two.

The HITS JIP, which is led by EM&I and chaired by a senior executive from SBM forms part of an industry wide FPSO Research Forum. It has focused on developing competency standards for those undertaking inspection in the industry. Which will form industry-wide policy and guidelines and on developing existing and emerging technologies to support inspection.

The group also decided on three promising inspection techniques and technologies to be developed and tested in the field, including the techniques and technology developed by EM&I for its Diverless UWILD (Underwater Inspection in Lieu of Dry Dock).

The next milestone meeting of the HITS group takes place in Monaco in February 2014.
